"Mental health affects everyone. The most common problems are stress,
anxiety and depressive disorders. Depression is a life-threatening
[condition] with a high mortality rate. Research shows that many people who
suffer from depression do not get adequate diagnosis or treatment."
(GOOD STRESS VERSUS BAD STRESS By Kasia Szymanska. www.depression.org.uk/main/pdf/kasia_stress.pdf.)
Stress, anxiety and depression are a significant problem affecting up to 1
in 4 people at any one time.

All teachers should be aware of stress symptoms, anxiety symptoms and depression symptoms so that they can recognise symptoms in themselves and others. Managers and employers should be pro-active in looking for symptoms in their staff, eg by carrying out risk assessments for stress.
